Logistics Management is a "specialist" management support organization, formed
in 1989 to provide expert knowledge, analytical skills, and practical support,
in the fields of Logistics, Distribution and Transportation, to companies that
are either experiencing problems in these areas, or alternatively, who wish to
re-look at these aspects of their business with the view to changing,
upgrading, and/or improving their current strategy, tactics, or methods of
operating. u
What is logistics?
More specific transport orientated issues are generally tackled by our sister
company Transport Concepts (See attached schedule).
Logistics Management has as part of it's mission statement, the following :
To promote, and contribute towards, the science of effective Logistics
Management as a meaningful, and valued management discipline.
Logistical issues are becoming very important and very expensive components to
most businesses today. As a result, they require very careful analysis,
formulation and implementation.
The fields of Logistics is fast becoming full-blown "sciences" in its own right,
with a wide spectrum of concepts, techniques, methodologies and analytical
"tools" for the optimization, and development, of the Distribution function
within a given business environment. Logistics Management attempts to keep
abreast of these developments and changes wherever possible.
Many companies, particularly those not in the for-hire- and-reward Transport
& Distribution sector, find that they have neither the manpower, time,
skills or necessary experience to give these aspects of their business the
appropriate amount of attention.
Unfortunately, the quality of management decisions is very dependent on the
quality of the analysis undertaken, and the presentation thereof.
It is Logistics Management's prime role, in such situations, to provide
analytical skills, a broader base of experience, and most importantly,
additional competent manpower when you need it most.

This is to be achieved through the following activities :

Distribution, and Transportation "models"
Logistics management consultancy support services These activities are based on
two fundamental values, namely :

A holistic, or "systems" approach to all analysis, formulation, problem solving
and implementation

An emphasis towards the "scientific analysis" of management issues wherever
applicable & appropriate.
The tasks performed, and the methods used, are largely based on the needs of the
situation. In broad terms, however, the approach adopted is always to make a
positive contribution, rather than a negative one. It is preferable, therefore,
that Logistics Management be treated as a temporary extension of the Company's
Management Team, at least for the duration of an assignment, rather than be
looked upon as an "outside" agent delving into the Company's affairs.
This expertise is largely based on thirty years of involvement in Distribution
and Road Transportation, both at the operating and management levels, and an
on-going practical, conceptual, and academic study of the whole sphere of
Transport, Distribution and Logistics.
In general terms, assignments or investigations are only accepted and initiated
after extensive consultation and debate with clients, on the exact terms and
reference of the investigation. This is done to ensure that the clients
expectations are met, and that he fully understands the process that he is
embarking on.
Other assignments are also taken on, depending on the exact needs of the
situation.
